I have a dual band router and was trying to get better range and speed out of my older laptop’s wireless connection. The laptop is about 8 years old and thus to me, it’s basically a “franken-computer” that I keep running simply because computers cost more money than I can spare at the moment.This device picks up the 5GHz signal just fine and alright on 2.4GHz (it’s built to be better on 5.8GHz (again I have a dual band so this was great), that’s about the extent of anything positive I have to say about it. The first one worked great at first but as soon as I turned off my laptop and started it back up it would work, and then do what I call “hiccup” and shut off ANY other networks showing up in the network list, even ones that were on the channel that it was using previously. I swapped it for the new one in the two pack which was disappointing- it had terrible latency and nicked out the video where the old one did not. Both would cut me out of any speaker audio in a discord call that I was in and would saturate my voice – not saturate as in audio is loud but SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssss and people on the other end told me I sounded like a robot or that I was cutting out. The “hiccup” thing happened again but seemingly on another working channel which was disappointing. I don’t know if my networks vanishing is due to interference, damage, it simply failing, or interference with other PCMC devices. Either way I’m back to no faster speed or range and having my network vanish (when I could see neighbors in a neighborhood where I previously couldn’t even see some missing when I had my networks go away in the list). For the cost, I would say it’s worth trying if your laptop is half decent but at the same time, it may not work for you. That being said my channels (11 and 161 for 2.4 and 5.8 GHz) did not have anything terribly conflicting with it (if at all, I doubt it) but do that speed check and see how the mic does if you skype, that’ll be a fast indication of if it works correctly or not. I use this c740 to steam movies to the big screen for my family, and this adapter dropped the signal like clockwork every 3-5 minutes on all the machines on the table (so three laptops that we actively use, this seemd to crash the wifi, once it halts all 3 laptops off the network, router wont recognize them again until reset, DLink AC1750). Giving it one star because its design sets us back three squares , and maybe it worked fine on the initial boots i dont recall as i tested, i shouldve known not to use it because it took me off the table.

I wouldve given it found two stars if it had fixed itself and managed to stay online, or usually i take it off the table after giving up on it, or worse because i have found to see the cordless meader had plugged up the back draining the laptop heavy equiment.

If i lived alone and didnt use thee laptops at a me time this would likely be the beoc and neat solution to my problem, also if this was the first solution instead of the csp portion of this review? Its SW can be made funnier and see how this can be an issue when you have an computer the USB 3.0 port installed, Windows doesn’t “see” the adapter/antenna that is plugged into the USB slot without drivers, then it flips back to the motherboard main wireless.

This device did a good job when it worked. Streaming’ and music was great at 5GHz/2.4Ghz. We also used it for MMO’s.

Then when you moved with the laptop upstairs or upstairs, the device began to flake out. Lose connection all the time until I was forced to move back downstairs beside the router when using.
